Started in 1913 by Julius Rosenwald. President of Sears Roebuck and Company,
the Rosenwald Fund provided matching grants for the construction of 5300 schools for African-Americans living in the rural south. Rosenwald’s philanthropy underwrote the construction of 98 schools across 44 Oklahoma counties from I920 to 1932. Completed in 1921, this school is one of the few remaining Rosenwald-funded schools in Oklahoma. Currently vacant, this property is in need of immediate attention.
