The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre was the worst civic disturbance in American history. Still, the local citizens were able to rebuild with their own money. The insurance policies would not pay claims because it was classified as a riot. Preservation Oklahoma seeks to highlight what Greenwood Chamber buildings were before and after the 18-hour massacre. Today, the Greenwood Chamber Buildings stand proudly in a neighborhood that has faced many obstacles. They stand as a beacon of education and reconciliation.
