The Morton Hospital was the first African American hospital in Tulsa, with African American physicians serving largely African American patients. Today, the original Morton Health building sits empty and abandoned since the move of the health center to a new facility. With its rich history, Morton Hospital deserves recognition and preservation. Recently, the City of Tulsa, which currently owns the building, received a $200,000 grant to clean the site of any hazardous substances. Hopefully this will make it easier for the building to be put back into use in the future.
